Triggers are not the enemy
Everyone gets triggered. Most people don’t know what to do.
Don’t be most people.
Instead, learn exactly how to put your triggers to work FOR you
so you don’t have to get blindsided again.

Triggers are so misunderstood. Instead, of being the enemy, they are pointing a spotlight at something that is still hurting, shaming, or angering - something you buried so deeply you may have forgotten it's there.
Feeling triggered means whatever is happening right now is yanking the unpleasant, unaddressed, unhealed feelings of that old memory out of its hiding place and inserting into this moment. And you're reacting as if it's happening all over again right now even if you have no memory connecting the two events.
There is wisdom and guidance in your triggers when you know how to work WITH them.
You already know more than you think you do. Your intuition has been dropping clues for years — nudging you toward the hidden stories that have been running your life without your permission.
Picture this…
You're having a perfectly ordinary day. And then out of nowhere, you feel ambushed — and your feelings are off and running before your brain even catches up.
Here's a relatively mild incident that happened to me. And I say relatively mild because on the surface it looks like a silly little nothing — but in that moment, it felt huge. A big old spike. Which is exactly the point.

I was at the gas station.
I typed my phone number into the touch screen to access whatever rewards were available.
It was rejected!
The cashier gave me a sullen look and said,
"You don't have a rewards membership."
Me – It must have been a typo. Let me put it in again.
Cashier – There's no membership for this number.
Me – It must have been a typo.
Cashier – There's no membership for this number.
Me – The receipt is in the car. Let me run get it.
Me – (Hands cashier the receipt)
Cashier – This is a different number.
Me: It was a typo! This is my number!
Cashier – (Huffs noisily and resets touchscreen.)
Me – (Retypes number. It goes through.)
Cashier – You typed the number on the receipt.
Me – Yes. (Starting to feel a little hot and bothered.)
Cashier – You used a different number.
Me – It was a typo!!!! This is my number!!!!
In this case, the trigger itself is one no one likes — feeling falsely accused.
Technically, everything she said was true.
But the feelings of being falsely accused that came roaring up had far more to do with the past than that cashier.
I could feel it building in my chest, in my gut, in my head. Ready to start spewing out of my mouth.
So I made a hasty retreat and sat in the car fuming, feeling righteously infuriated.
How dare she!? What was she accusing me of!?
That's what getting triggered feels like to me — the guilt, the fake smile, the hours of replaying it after. You too?
Here's the thing no one tells you: that reaction didn't come out of nowhere.
The tone, the look, the feeling of being dismissed or accused or forgotten — your body recognized it.
Not from that cashier. From a long time ago. And it blew.
That's a trigger. It isn't random. And it definitely isn't a character flaw.
That trigger is a signpost pointing directly at an old, still-hurting feeling that never got fully addressed.
One that's been underground so long it's started writing stories about what those incidents mean and what they say about you. Your worth. Your too-much or not-enough-ness. What you can and can't do or say or be.
You didn't write those stories, but you've been living them. And they've been driving your life incognito.
You can't change a story you don't know is there. It's no use to pretend it didn't happen. Deciding it didn't hurt won't stop it from hurting. But bringing it out of hiding and dealing with it will rob it of the ability to be an inner dictator.
That's what StoryShifting is. And that's exactly what these cards are for.
With the StoryShift Triggers Card Deck, you don't have to wait to get triggered.
You can find and face those hidden triggers, and loosen their grip before life makes that choice for you.

A bullseye pointing directly toward a place you're still carrying
pain, shame, and anger.
You draw a card. You read the prompt. And whatever surfaces first? That's not random. That's your gut finally getting a word in.
The StoryShift Triggers Card Deck was designed for exactly this —
so you can stop being blindsided and start taking charge.
On purpose. At a time of your own choosing.
Here's what makes this deck different from anything else you've tried.
Each of the 52 cards carries a single open-ended prompt. Something like:
I feel helpless when ____________.
What is the first thought, feeling, memory, or story that comes to mind?
That's not random.
It's your gut speaking before your head can talk it out of anything.
It's the hidden association that's prevented you from seeing the connection.
There's no assigned meaning. No "if you draw this card, it means that."
No lock-step, cookie-cutter interpretation waiting for you on the back.
The cards are deliberately designed to be read by you, for you.
Just because two people get the same card doesn’t mean they’ll be finding out the same things.
Your stories are uniquely yours, even when the emotions underneath them are ones we all share.
Don't go searching for the "right" memory.
Don't rank which hurt was worse or decide where to start.
Llisten to what comes up first — because your gut already knows.
The card just tells your gut it's finally time.
What you grasp when you follow the card’s direction is yours alone.
No one else will get the same guidance you do even if you pick the same card.
And sometimes the cards that seem to have the least to say end up revealing the most.
On the back side of every card is the StoryShift lotus -
a reminder that the old stories you've been carrying are also the ground your healing grows from.
Every bit of muck and mud has been fertilizer in disguise.
Pick a card.
What's the first thought, memory, or story that comes to mind?
What's the main feeling evoked by that thought, memory, or story?
That's where you're feeling hurt or stuck, even if you didn't know.
Note: What comes to mind may or may not exactly match the prompt
on the card because the open-ended prompts
are designed to help you uncover your hidden triggers
and see your old triggers from a new perspective.
The included instructions tell you how to proceed from there.
Pull a card every morning as a check-in, making StoryShifting a regular part of how you shape your days.
Or reach for it when you've been triggered and want to get to the bottom of it fast.
Or sit down when something has been nagging at you and you're finally ready to find out why.
Here's what regular use gives you:
You stop being ambushed.
You start recognizing the patterns before they run away with you.
You get ahead of the story instead of cleaning up after it.
And you might find — as a lot of people do — that working with what seems like one small thing
untangles a whole lot more.

So simple and clear. I want to use the cards with my own clients.

The first time Anne used the cards with me blew me away, but I didn't think they would be that easy and powerful to use on my own. Thank you, Anne!

As someone who spent years getting tripped up by triggers that seemed to materialize out of nowhere, I can fully relate to the tangled feelings of anger, shame, and blame.
I didn't study my way to this work (though I have the credentials). I lived my way to it - and then spent years figuring out how to make it teachable.
But what if I told you it was possible to see where they're coming from AND put them to work on your behalf?
The StoryShift Triggers Cards are one of the key tools we use in helping you stop holding yourself back, ditch the people pleasing and perfectionism, and make peace with your past without pretending some things never happened or didn't hurt.
